Open India Festival at St. Petersburg: On 16-22 Apr, Indian Film and culture festival was held at Saint Petersburg on the occasion of 65th anniversary of Indo-Russian diplomatic relations. Indian Ambassador Shri Ajai Malhotra inaugurated the event at St. Petersburg on 16 Apr 2012. The Russian-language edition of the book “King of Bollywood: Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema” by Anupama Chopra as well as DVD on “Vedas” were released during the inauguration. The “Open India” festival opened in a full house at Lensoveta concert hall at St. Petersburg. The ceremony featured a concert by the Nizami Brothers, who performed Qawwali music. The performance was very well appreciated by 1400-strong Russian audience. Seventeen screenings were organized to show 15 modern Indian movies dubbed in Russian in three cinema halls. Bollywood film star Sharman Joshi attended the festival and had interaction with the Russian Film fraternity. The festival was organized by “M/s Art Bereg, M/s Mirage Cinema, St. Petersburg and an NGO Routes2Roots, New Delhi” with the support of ICCR, Directorate of Film Festival, New Delhi and EOI, Moscow and the Consulate General of India, St. Petersburg.
